We are committed to providing biological and natural resource expertise to promote effective land-use planning, conservation, and scientific understanding and communication. Developing collaborations with excellent communication is a key principle for Castilleja Consulting - while we have diverse skills we are small and focused on a small number of projects. We have particular skills in working in the back country and organizing logistics with fixed-wing and helicopter support.

Prior to becoming self-employed at Castilleja Consulting, Matt Carlson, was a biology professor, herbarium curator, and director of the Alaska Center for Conservation Science at University of Alaska Anchorage. We are proud of our scientific experience in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, and have over 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, dozens of conservation reports to federal agencies, and have been as PI or co-PI received 125 grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts in the last three decades.
